Ever since I was little, every time I sensed a flu, cold or fever coming on, my dad was always ready to stop me from taking any medications whatsoever. All he did was tell us to drink warm water and sleep it off. Until today, finding a paracetamol in our first aid kit is always a problem!
It has really grown on me that for minor ailments, adequate water (and rest) is often just what we need. Thanks to my dad, my body has accepted the habit of healing so well with just water!

Here are some other benefits of water:

1. Maintains circulation

Water helps in the digestion of food and is the best tool to avoid constipation. A high level of moisture in our bowel track is essential for smoother processes of digestion and elimination.

2. Flushes out toxins

When you drink water, your body gets rid of it through urine and sweat. Therefore, drinking a lot helps the kidneys flush out toxins through urination.

3. Boosts immune system

Drinking a minimum of eight glasses per day can help prevent you from getting the occasional flu or cold. Imagine water as a natural form of lubricant – it ensures the systems and organs in our body are functioning well.

4. Remedy for headaches

Have you ever experienced headaches after sitting under the scorching sun? This is because your body has become dehydrated through sweating, and it takes its toll by constricting blood vessels in your head. Try drinking some water, it definitely solves the problem.

5. Healthier skin

Are you envious of that friend of yours who has amazingly supple skin? We bet that she drinks a lot throughout her day to achieve such a remarkable complexion. So chuck away those lotions and moisturisers, and say hello to water! In fact, drinking lots of water helps to heal wounds and scabs a lot faster too.

6. Helps you lose weight

No wonder gym trainers heavily emphasise drinking a lot of water on a daily basis. It suppresses your appetite (if you drink half an hour prior a meal), and increases metabolism, which can lead to faster weight loss.

7. Increases intellect

Water helps out your cognitive function. Our brain needs to be well-hydrated in order to perform exceptionally. Say hello to the new Einstein in you!

8. A happier you!

The ideal pH of our body should be around pH7, so maintain this by drinking enough water daily. You will notice that long gone are the days when you wake up in the morning feeling all sluggish and tired – instead you will feel happier and more energetic throughout the day!
