Altough year of 2013 nearly end soon, lets catch up some of headlines and the biggest news impact in 2013..
10 . Genting Highlands bus crash:


In what is Malaysia's deadliest road accident yet, 37 people were killed after a bus carrying 53 passengers plunged 60 meters into a ravine near the Chin Swee Temple in at popular tourist destination, Genting Highlands on Aug 21.
 
9. 'Allah' ban on Catholic weekly The Herald:
 
 
 
 
 



After several years of fighting to use the word 'Allah' in its weekly publication The Herald, the Catholic Church received bad news from the Court of Appeal. In their decision, the court ruled that 'the name Allah was not an integral part of the Christian faith and practice'. The Allah row erupted in early 2009 when the Home Ministry threatened to revoke the Herald’s permit for using the word Allah to refer to God.
 
8. Sex bloggers charged:
 

After their offensive Ramadhan 'greeting' (featuring them feasting on Bak Kut Teh) on Facebook went too far, sex bloggers Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee, who scorched the headlines in 2012 with their explicit sex photos, were formally charged for their controversial Ramadan greeting and for uploading explicit photos on their blog previously.

7. Worst smog in 16 years:


When the air pollutant index in Muar hit the hazardous 750 mark one Sunday morning in June, the government declared a state of emergency in the Johor district as well as in Ledang. The Muar pollution reading was Malaysia's highest since the API hit 860 during a severe 1997-1998 haze crisis.

6. Goods and Services Tax:







After years of speculations, the government announced in its 2014 Budget that the GST would come into effect beginning April 1, 2015.

5. 20 sen fuel price hike:
 




In a move that outraged the regular Malaysians, fuel prices went up by 20sen. Prime Minister Najib Razak justified the price hike by saying the new prices will save the government at least RM1.1 billion.

Malaysians were gripped with worry after a spate of shootings took over the news.


3. 13th General Elections:



Even in Helsinki's freezing temperatures, voter Yeow Pooi Ling poses with her official notification letter allowing her to vote in the 13th general elections from Finland. Malaysians everywhere voted on May 5 this year in what was the hottest elections in the history of the nation. A record 85 per cent of total voters turned up to cast their votes.

2. Black 505 rally:




On the wet evening of May 8th, just three days after the BN-won general elections, Pakatan Rakyat staged a mammoth rally attended by some 50,000 people, many of them dressed in black, as a protest against the various claims of misconduct during the polls. The rally for free and fair elections was organised by Pakatan Rakyat (PR) at Stadium MBPJ in Kelana Jaya.

1. Sulu siege on Lahad Datu, Sabah:


In February, self-proclaimed Sulu sultan Jamalul Kiram III, ordered an armed intrusion into Sabah to lay his claim on the state. Following weeks of tension, Malaysian security forces moved in leaving dozens dead on both sides in what would be the deadliest confrontation Malaysia has seen in recent decades.
